Our Codalie Story

For years, my art lived on the corners of meeting agendas and scraps of lesson-plan paper—little sketches inspired by the pets who shaped my life. My love for animals began as a teenager during my first shift as a volunteer at our local animal shelter, when a tiny malnourished black kitten cried from her cage. I called my mom and adopted her on the spot. Maddie became my first kitty, staying by my side for 17 years through breakups, career changes, the births of my children, and every chapter in between. She was the beginning of my lifelong love for rescues and the reason I believe animals change us in ways nothing else can.

Over the years, I adopted more cats and dogs—each with their own quirks, stories, and gentle kind of magic. They became my quiet companions through long school days and late nights, always nearby as I photographed their antics and let their personalities fill my children’s memories as much as my own. A year after losing Maddie, I adopted Malone- the very beating heart of our family. This kitty whose bond with me ran deep and unforgettable. Losing him just two years later was devastating, but his presence and love are woven into everything I create.

 Shortly after losing Malone, I adopted Coda, whose playful quirks reminded me that our hearts can make room for new joy. After sitting on the couch cuddling Coda, my husband mad a comment about my obsession for animals (not just my pets, but even cows and horses). I explained to him that I bond with animals differently than I do people. I let him know that we are getting older and so are our children. Pets brings me "coziness." You know the feeling...the light-hearted, carefree, everlasting, and kindered feelings. In that moment I realized that's a feeling I have been chasing and I have done that through my pets. Although I wish I could buy every pet in the world - I can't, so that is when I discovered a new way to capture that feeling. 

Codalie Cute Designs was born from that love and feeling—Codalie itself being a blend of my most recent kitty (Coda) and his brother (Malone...aka Malone-eee). I created this business to bring coziness into the homes of others, whether you are a little child who just wants to have a kitty keychain or an adult person who wants to be reminded of the coziness you once felt as a child AND even to the person who has been chasing that cozy feeling their entire life. So with that I hope you find something in our shop that makes you feel coziness in your heart!
